What is CalonLettings?

A project managed by Cadwyn Housing Association. Acting as a letting and managing agent we are using our knowledge and experience to provide Landlords with a full management service under the CalonLettings banner.

Who can apply for a property?

The priority is to people to whom the Council have agreed that they have a duty to provide permanent accommodation. But we will consider anyone who is living in a hostel and have a reference from their support worker (see below for reference form).

How will I know where the properties are?

We will be trying to secure properties in Central areas of Cardiff. The CalonLettings team will circulate to hostels the list of available properties.

How long will I be able to live in the property?

That depends on two things - you and the private landlord. If the private landlord is happy to continue letting the property through CalonLetttings (and we will try to make sure that they do) then we can continue to rent it to you, so long as you keep to the conditions of the tenancy. Your tenancy will be a 6 month assured shorthold tenancy and the agreement will be with Cadwyn HA under the banner of CalonLetttings. The landlord has to give us 6 months notice to terminate the agreement with Cadwyn HA. Should this happen we will endeavour to find you alternative accommodation.

Bonds

In order to move into a CalonLettings property, you will need to have a bond. We would recommend you contact Cardiff Bond Board, based at Marland House, to see if you would qualify for help from them in the form of a Bond Certificate. If you are interested in a property with us and we have accepted your reference, you would need to go to Marland House with; a form of ID, Proof of Income, and full property details (including address and rent amount).

What if I need support?

If you are moving from a hostel the hostel should provide you with resettlement support but if you feel you require further support the Council’s Tenant Support Scheme will assess your support needs, and will be able to give you support if you need it.
